GEEZ...
That wasn't an earthquake...
it was me saying BAD words...
My parents are probably flipping around in their graves wondering where I ever heard those nasty words...
Anyway...I know for sure I don't need a stress test...
the OLD ticker must be OK!
and..
Persistence pays off...
FINALLY...success!!
she said with her fingers crossed...
So day 5...wrapping it up.
I hope you've had fun...I sure have...
well not this morning, but you guys are so worth it!!
THANKS for all the comments...
I appreciate each & EVERY ONE OF them & YOU!
Tieing into the title of this post...
today's offerings are altered wrappings...
simply done & very cheap...inexpensive...
no...cost effective...
I like that much better...
and you can use up those scraps in the process.
Hobby Lobby has their holiday wrappings on sale this week...
50%off...
perfect timing for me!
So here's one little gift container...
it's generic...
but it has huge potential...
By adding just a few scraps of Maya Road crochet trim, left over stamped polka dot cardstock, a black cardstock scrap, some Maya Road gingham ribbon and a tim type charm...
it can easily be transformed & personalized to this...
Next, I picked up these cute boxes @ HL too...
50 cents each...
I LIKE that!
Again...they're OK, but they need some help...
So, for a December birthday gift...
I added a scrap of wide polka dot ribbon,
a Maya Road felt beaded flower, which I covered with rock candy distress stickles,
a stamped stem, some leaves(on grungepaper) & the NEW tiny heart trinket pin from Maya Road.
The leaves were added with the cutie tiny attacher...
ah...
Much better...
And here's another...
a generic square box...
but with a great base color for inking & stamping...
I pulled this out of the archives, but I think Michael's & Hobby Lobby always have them in stock...
I started by lightly inking the lid with brushed corduroy, then I stamped the polka dots with fired brick distress ink.
I used the gold paint dabber to edge around the top of the lid...
a little touch...
but the details do matter...a LOT...
The holly is stamped with jet black archival on grungepaper, cut out & inked with peeled paint & fired brick, then covered with rock candy distress stickles...
Next, using jet black archival, I inked the text stamp, layed it flat on my table & pressed each edge of the box lid onto the stamp.
It's so easy to get your stamping straight that way.
Next, I checked to see what scraps were available...
the red is jillibean & the black is graphic45....
I added those to the top of the lid, stamped a few scrolls...
and added my holly.
There wasn't room for the whole saying, so I chopped it apart & used just the words that fit...
A little pen stitching around the edge...
some accent dots...
I LOVE the Sakura glaze pen in black...
The finishing touch is a row of black pearls...
from Hero Arts.
Pretty quick & easy too...
Here's a look @ the stamped sides of the lid...
another small detail, but that makes it look more finished, I think...
So there you have it...
3 simple gift presentation ideas...
wrapping it up....

Great gift wrapping ideas Wendy ... sorry you had so much difficulty trying to get your blog up but it was well worth the wait ... I've loved all your projects this week. Thanks for a great week!!!! What a wonderful giveaway from Simon Says .....
ReplyDeleteI am going to Hobby Lobby to get me some boxes - what a cute idea. What you could do with $100 to spend at Simon Says- WOW
ReplyDeleteThose gift wrapping ideas look so great. thanks for sharing all of the inspiration this week.
ReplyDeleteI adore those boxes!!! I am on my way to a weekend crop and you have added several projects for me to complete...LOVE IT!! I would love to win that fantastic gift certificate...wowie!! Thanks for a chance to win :)
ReplyDeleteWell...if I were to win...I'd get some of the missing stamp sets from my studio 490 collection...and some of the cute Maya Road trinket pins...I really love the ideas of how to "dress" something up. We don't take enough time for each other in this culture of ours...art slows us down, feeds the soul, and brings joy to another's heart! At the end of the day...it's about letting each other know that we are loved. Seems to me that gets lost when people are rushing around to get "the perfect gift"! The perfect gift...is always love and cannot be bought...You keep saying that your gifts are cheap...or you correct that...and say inexpensive. They are neither. Time is the most valuable thing any of us have...especially since none of us have any idea of how much of it we really have. The largest gamble in this life is to spend your time on another. The most precious of gifts. So, whatever you do in this season of lights, remember to give a little of yourself to those that you love. Love is the only gift that, once given, cannot be returned or exchanged. Blessings to all.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you dressed up the boxes! I always have these generic packagings, but never seem to have the inspiration needed! Thanks for the once again amazing inspiration, Wendy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe no longer exchange gifts but I might just have to make some of these to have on hand for other occasions. Love 'em! Would love to win that humongous gift cert from Simon Says. I have lots of plans for some neat stuff that's been on my wish list for a long time!

ReplyDeleteWendy -
ReplyDeleteYour gift wrappings look wonderful! I this they are simply gorgeous. I have several of the boxes I've gotten at Michaels and I think I'll decorate them as you suggest. But, I think I'll add little wooden feet, maybe line the inside with paper or a padded fabric bottom. This way it turns it into a little treasure box, two gifts in one.

ReplyDeleteWendy, I'm so sorry that you've had problems the last couple of days :( But I'm very glad you stuck it out and posted when you could. I'll never forget the time I was supposed to teach an online class and not long before class started my provider had issues and I couldn't even get on the internet until an hour after the class was supposed to be finished.. sigh... technology!!! Needless to say, class was rescheduled... but I felt soooooooooooo bad!!!

ReplyDeleteVery cool gift wrapping ideas - I am going to have to head out to Hobby Lobby tommorrow !!!!!
ReplyDeleteFAbulOUS!! I especially like the box. The holly & berry stamp (I just got it recently and have used it a BUNCH!) really sets off the papers. The best part is not having to tear it apart to open it. It's like getting two gifts in one. I'm dreaming of a gift cer-tif-i-cate....
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! I just fell in love with these crafts that you make and post for us. Keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteThe gift containers are AMAZING! WOW! But then again I have yet to see something on here that I didn't think was amazing! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis is really helpful - so many times I think that the gift card containers that the store provides are really nice enough, but the way you kick them up a notch - yes, I will have to apply this ideas to my own containers.

so easy, so elegant, and any gift in those just went way up the charts.
ReplyDeleteIt was funny, my daugther had just said, she and her roommate will not have many presents under their tree as neither can afford anything this year (college students) but they were going to wrap some empty boxes so their tree would look nicer. Won't a set of these be a lovely addition to their decor!!!
Lizz S.

ReplyDeleteSue
If I won I would buy stamps and possibly a few Tim Holtz products. There are several Tim Holtz and Studio 490 stamps that I still need/want. That would be amazing if I had a $100 shopping spree. Living on a limited SS income make it a bit harder to buy art supplies. And I am such an addict to all teh products out there.
ReplyDeleteI just love your work Wendy, it's the best!
your gift packages are so cute and I already have the box. Now I need to win so I have some shopping money so I can put a gift in it. :0)
