5 Q & A...6 WINNERS!

I thought I'd do another quick Q & A...
to catch up on some emails/comments from the last few weeks...
it's been a long time since the last Q&A...
sorry!

REMEMBER...

if you need a quick answer...
just email me...

I try to answer questions from the blog comment section when there is an associated email...

if there's no email account, I have no way of responding...
and your question will wait 'til the next Q & A post...

ok...
#1... I know Ranger doesn't make a paper trimmer,
 what do you recommend?

when I first started making art,
I fell in love with the Genesis cutter...
it's pricy...
I know...

but I've had mine for at least 10 years & I still love it...
it still makes a perfect cut & I've never even changed a blade...
we use it constantly for class kits etc...
and I'm sure it's gotten way more than normal use...

#2...how do I know what ink to use when? is there a simple chart somewhere?

here's a quick answer...

Ranger's Archivals are permanent when dry...
that means...

if a water based product (Perfect Pearls, distress inks or stains) is used OVER Archivals...
your stamped image remains crisp, clear & it will not bleed...

I use archivals to stamp my art parts...
and I love them for background stamping &
for stamping my main images.

since I'm never sure what I'll add over the backgrounds,
Archivals are a safe choice...

they are a very versatile ink...
you can use them on paper, card stock, Clearly for Art, metal, glass, chipboard, grungeboard, grungepaper, to stamp over distress paints...
even my Blossom Bucket pieces...
and...embossing pastes!

almost forgot...
the are permanent on fabric too, when heat set & dry...

***here's a little tip***

 Blending Solution will remove Archivals...
so...if your stamp slips on metal, glass or Clearly For Art...
(a NON-POUROUS surface)
Blending Solution will remove the Archival ink!

Archivals are AWESOME!

I'll be showing some fun Archival tips in the near future...

now...on to distress...

distress inks are made to react with water...
so if the same water based products are used OVER distress inks, the inks will react & bleed...
just like they were created to do...
GENIUS!

do I ever use distress inks for background/main image stamping?
YES!

because I know they WILL react & that's the basis for lots of cool techniques...

since I LOVE the distress colors,
I use them for my main stamping
(sayings that I want to be readable)
if I'm NOT going to add water over them...
that way the image remains very crisp...

I use distress inks on every project...
I used them once & was IN LOVE!

REMEMBER...
to look at the ink pad labels...

there's a ton of info about their properties...

YIKES...
I guess that wasn't a quick answer...
oops!

#3...more house photos please!

ok...
it'll be a bit...
we're still waiting on family room furniture/area rug & the main bath vanity...

#4...is there a way to change the color of your embossing pastes?

YOU BET!

I chose to add the embossing pastes to my product line because they work with ALL tim/Ranger products...

my favorite way to pre-color it,
is with a drop of any distress reinker...

I showed this at CHA in this video...

you can mist it while wet with any distress stain
(I put the stains into misters)...

when the paste is dry, you can go over it with distress ink on a blending tool...

I'll have more info on that coming up soon...
but check out the video for the scoop...

#5...why did you put the distress stains in sprayers as opposed to making your own colors with reinkers?

lol...
like I said above, I LOVE distress &
I REALLY wanted the distress stains in a spray form...
so I made my own...

you can use the reinkers to make colored sprays,
but since water was added to the reinker, it has already reacted & you will not get the usual reactive effects you expect...

BUT...
by putting the undiluted distress stains in a mister...
you can spray & still get the same cool distress effects & do awesome techniques...

try just one
distress stain in a mister...

I bet you come back & tell me that you too
LOVE the distress stains in a spray form!
