MORE studio 490 sightings

I got an email from Sue Roddis yesterday, telling me that I inspired her. SWEET!

She saw this post...and it inspired her to make this cool critter...
I think the body is extra special with the added text.

I LOVE this!! She used my studio 490 funky flowers for tailfeathers...and she also added the leaves from the Life and Art set.

Doesn't she look comfy sitting in her nest?

BEWARE! These birds are addicting!

The funky flowers also make a cool HAT.

And here you see that Sue again used the leaves to embellish her art base.

This is awesome Sue!! Thanks for sharing with us!

And this was an unexpected sighting for me too...
I had no clue how happy it would make me to see others use my stamps.

It's EXCITING!

Bonnie Egenton, Ranger's Marketing Director, did 2 videos and used my stamps to demo some Perfect Pearls techniques. YIPPEE!!

The Ranger site is loaded with tons of FREE info & videos.

Check it out...

I'll bet you'll be inspired to...

2 tutorials and 2 studio 490 sightings

and a Columbus report...that's me with a blog friend, Nancy...she is HILARIOUS!
*
We had a great show...
met lots of new friends...
sold out COMPLETELY of everything you NEED to make grunge flowers...
*
I think you'll be seeing lots of grunge flowers in Ohio!
*
Stampers Anonymous has LOTS of SPECIAL orders to send out too...these gals cleared out the booth!
*
THANKS to everyone who attended and visited our booth.
*
As promised...red pepper and lettuce...
Ranger's new PIGMENT inks...
*
These pigment inks give chipboard (Maya Road...of course) a totally different look, since it's opaque.
*
It's simple to tap the pads right on the chipboard. These are quick drying pigment inks...about 15 minutes on porous surfaces...or if you're in a hurry like me...a quick blast with the heat tool & you're all ready to embellish.
*
I find that these earthtone colors cover in one coat. Some of the lights, like the yummy cloudy blue & my favorite juniper may take 2 coats for complete coverage. It's ...simple...
*
After it's dry...I stamp with jet black archival for a nice crisp image.

Other credits for this piece...the striped paper is graphic45...the green base is bazzill's swiss dot cardstock.
*
The flower is red pepper...the scroll is lettuce...
*
I think you know the stamps are mine...
***
NEXT...
I forgot to memtion this last week.
I did blog post for the Maya Road DT blog.
Like the flower below??
*
It's there plus 3 other versions of the same flower.
*
The post is here...one flower...4 fun ways.
*
I guess that's why I LOVE Maya Road...
every piece is a blank slate & can be...ANYTHING!

Now...this was fun...browsing the web, I spotted these wonderful projects, using studio 490 stamps...
*
The first is from Nancy Wethington, a St. Louis friend...she made it to document her son's return home from the service.
I think it's BEAUTIFUL!

And here's 2 more from Cat...
I met her in California a few weeks ago @ the Carson convention...
The first is a gift for her friend...how cool is that?

And I LOVED this piece too...
*
Hmmm...looks to me like she's a Maya Road addict too...and she likes my stamps!
THANKS NANCY & CAT...keep up the GREAT work!
You guys rock!
*
That's it for today...
*
Next stop on the art adventure is Scrapaganza in Iowa.
We'll be doing 3 classes there...
a fun Maya Road book, the funky flowers grunge class and the use your scraps fragment journal.
*
Sounds like a great way to spend the weekend to me...
hope you can join us!
*
Time to make kits...

2 minis & a layout...studio 490 style

a layout?????

WHAT??? I don't do photos...
I don't know how to scrapbook...

I'm headed to Columbus, Ohio tomorrow to demo for Stampers Anonymous @ Memories Expo, which explains why I wanted to do something with a photo...but that comes later...

First...the minis...

Since Stampers Anonymous now has Maya Road products
(for your shopping convenience!)...
I thought I'd make a few samples for the booth.

This background was fun...sort of a mini sampler of studio 490 background stamps.

They're stamped on squares from Maya Road's foundation tin. I used the matching frames on other projects and had some extra squares...

perfect for a sampler...

the bird is from the birds of a feather set...

the base is a scalloped coaster.

I like the distress ink combo of broken china and peeled paint...

all stamping is done with jet black archival ink...
ALWAYS!...unless it's coffee archival...ha!

tim's idea-ology snaps added the finishing touch.

Another favorite color combo on the next mini...
vintage photo and broken china...

The flower is from the blossoms 2 tin...and it was run thru the Cuttlebug folder, then inked using Ranger's blending tool.

The stamps?? studio 490, of course!

The yummy brown flower is Maya Road's beaded felt blossom.

Now the layout...

Since Memories Expo is a scrapbook convention...what if people expect to see layouts in the booth?

I had none!!
NEVER made one...ever...YIKES!

But it was my lucky day...
we happened to find this photo in the basement of Rick's aunts home...

just the perfect sepia color for me and it was already mounted on a cool cardboard frame...

The papers are from graphic 45...I LOVE them...
perfect for vintage...

The embellishments on the left corner are stamped on grungeboard & grungePAPER...with studio 490 stamps...
there are a few mini chipboard flowers in there too...

FAMILY is spelled with Maya Road's brand new mini jonathan alphabet.
This is my most favorite product from their new release...
seriously...

I used tim's new metal corners and if you look close...there's a trinket pin in there too.

So there you have it...my first & probably ONLY layout ever...

I'm off early tomorrow...REALLY early...like 4am??? YIKES!

If you're close to Columbus...please stop by & say HI!

It's fun to put a name to the face...and to meet blog friends.

I'm planning to meet some friends from 2peas there too! Can't wait!

I'll be there to...

Make(demo)art!

wendy

PS...and if you live close to Philadelphia...there's a convention there this weekend...

Mr. Stampers Anonymous will be doing demos ...stop by...tell him that I said HI!

I guarantee...he WILL make you laugh!

and...coming Monday...lettuce & red pepper...

Sound like something to eat?

NOPE...It's Ranger's new PIGMENT inks...I made a little something & I LOVE these new earthtone colors...stay tuned...I'll show you on Monday.

studios 490 out takes...

Since my studio was featured in Cloth Paper Scissors "studios" special issue, I've had several requests for more photos.

One in particular made me laugh...
"would you open EVERY drawer & show us what's inside?"..

I think...NOT!

But I did find these lost photos, taken by Jake Krancic.
These were not chosen to be published by CPS...

Jake makes it look huge with his fancy lens...It's not...
it's only 20 feet...

I'd REALLY like to add on...but don't tell Rick.
Actually, I did & the poor guy thought I was kidding...

NOT!

This is looking in from the kitchen...toward the east...
Since we live in the country, I kept the window treatments to a minimum...

I love windows & sun... oh.....and drawers...

When the lights go out, I'm ready to hit the sack...

This next photo was taken from inside the studio, facing toward the north. To give some size perspective...my island is 4 foot by 5 foot...nice sized...but I find myself squished into a one foot square working space most days...
odd...

I stand to work, but I do have an overhang for sitting...
you'll see that on the right, in the photo below...

There is just a small circle top window on the north wall, since that's where the road is...

This shot was taken facing the south...

NEXT.........

Here's a shameless plug for my friends @ Cloth Paper Scissors...

The next "studios" issue will be on the newstands or in your mailbox on March 31st.

Guess who has a 6 page spread???

The first name starts with a "T"
...the last name starts with an "H"...
Check it out!

It's a TOTALLY different style than mine and you'll see that it's TOTALLY AWESOME...

I'm just saying.......

you don't want to miss the next issue...

Have a good day & take time to...
Make ART!
wendy
ps...today I'm working on studio 490 stamp release #3!!
The first set name is...

The ART of the ...?

OOPS...I think it's too soon to say...a girl's gotta have some secrets...
stay tuned!

idea-ology hanging..

If you're a blog visitor...you already know that I think anything can be made into a flower...

Have you seen tim's new idea-ology corners??

You got it...I saw flower parts...

Here we have...
Exhibit A...

The base is Maya Road's scallop journaling coaster. I inked it with broken china, then added some vintage photo distress ink over it.

The background was stamped with my studio 490 bingo background stamp, using jet black archival ink. I lightly ran a gold paint dabber around the edge & it's hung with idea-ology link chain.

The center flower is tim's new idea-ology foliage...
so are the leaves...

I stamped the spinner/stem with my gingham background &
jet black archival ink.
Heat set...it's permanent...

Snaps make cool flower centers...

That was fun...

Exhibit B...

Pretty much the same...but a vintage photo background, stamped with my studio 490 polka dot stamp...
the black cardstock is edged again with the gold paint dabber.

Here's a closer shot of the flower...see how 4 corners make a flower?

The moral of today's post...

Look @ the possibilities...
then...

Maya Road treasure box with fragments

Our PO guy brought a box earlier this week...
Hmmm..what did I buy??

I didn't remember placing an order...

Here's what was in the box...

This is a project that I made for Maya Road & it was being returned from the Scrapbooking & Beyond folks.

It's published in the Spring 2009 issue...

This is Maya Road's treasure box...and the recessed lid is loaded with tim's fragments. Since these fragments are small...
they are perfect for left over paper scraps....

USE THOSE SCRAPS...DON'T TOSS THEM!

They are also the perfect base for bits & pieces of
leftover rub-ons.

All the rub-ons on top of the fragments are made by Maya Road...as is the large scroll under the knob.

I am NOT prejudice when I say they are wonderful quality.
They are simple to apply & they really do stay in place.

That's a fact...

Scrapbooking & Beyond's photographer did a great job...
THANK YOU!

Here's the article & instructions...

MAYA ROAD...
Treasure box...it's 5 3/4 inches square...

Other products...

tim holtz idea-ology
fragments

RANGER INDUSTRIES...

latte adirondack dye ink...applied with the blending tool

jet black & coffee archival inks...2 MUST haves.

I like to stamp my backgrounds in coffee, then my main image in jet black...

Glossy Accents...for adhering the paper to the back of the fragment & also for adhering the fragment to the lid.

STAMPERS ANONYMOUS...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the newspaper scraps stamp #U2-943

The paper is from Melissa Frances & the pattern names are Gilbert, Sandra, Thomas & Wesley.

The knob is made by 7 gypsies.

I used the black glaze pen from Sakura to add dots to the fragments.

That's it for today...

I'll be back with the full project from yesterdays peek...
just as soon as the box gets delivered.

It's on the truck!

Have a fun weekend...

I hope you're inspired to...
USE those scraps and...

make art!

Her mom Daisy, stocks the stamps in her store...
Nice & convenient for her living in California...she picked up her order right from Ted & has them in stock.
Ah...........fresh rubber!
*
Next is a little...very little peek.

a Stampers Anonymous update

It seems that studio 490 stamps were accidently NOT loaded on the truck that was @ the Rockford, Illinois convention this past weekend.
So for those who left comments, but don't have an email contact listed on the blogger profile...please email
wbv1213@hughes.net.
Stampers Anonymous is sorry for the inconvenience and
Ted said that you can place an order & he will ship it for free.

They are SWAMPED with stamp orders & he will send the stamps asap to the 2 lucky gals who won my blog drawing.
They haven't forgotten you!

Thanks so much for understanding.

the Carson report...

We had a GREAT weekend!
Thanks to all who came & did their civic duty to help the economy...
which is more commonly known as...
SHOPPING!

I got to visit with some friends...meet some blog friends and also some 2 peas stampers. What FUN!!!

I also got to meet CAT from Cat's Craft Cupboard...we've chatted via email, so it was fun to put a face to the name.

Here's a few photos...the Stampers Anonymous booth was huge & it was loaded with product...

Oh look......
studio 490 stamps and to the left, some of the Maya Road products...

At the end of Sunday there were NO studio 490 stamps left!!
I think these gals like flowers.........

Here's the area where I demoed...

For those of you in the midwest...that green stuff is something they call GRASS in California...

I think I've seen it in Illinois...but that was a LONG time ago...
VERY LONG ago...

More goodies.........

Look @ all these wood mounted Stampers Anonymous stamps........

Other interesting details...

We started with 160 packages of grungePAPER...sold them ALL in just 4 hours.

We had a GUEST artist...12 year old Samantha Sparks...
daughter of Daisy, who owns eclectic paperie...
She made a grungePAPER flower & did an awesome job.

Moral of the story...If you see it (grungePAPER).......
get it...........
it's TOTALLY fun stuff.

60 packages of PLAIN grungeBOARD sheets...gone!

These California gals loved Maya Road...
ALL the jewel flowers, jewel pins and TONS of chipboard stuff have a new home.

Keychain & Pearl had to keep restocking the Ranger stuff...distress inks, reinkers, blending tools, craft sheets...

Perfect Pearls were a HUGE hit...they loved the glitz!

So...that's my story...and I'm sticking to it!

Have a GREAT day and...

lovin' the Maya Road minis...

Here's another little sample for the Stampers Anonymous booth...a gift tag.
*
This uses my MOST FAVORITE (REALLY!!) new Maya Road product...mini chipboard alphas...this font is Jonathan...the other mini choices are Noah (skinny font) and David.
*
I'm happy to have several choices to mix & match...I have wanted these for a LONGGGGGG time.
*
These guys really ARE mini...
*
To give you a reference point...the base is Maya Road's ATC coaster...2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. It's inked with scattered straw distress ink, and stamped with coffee archival ink ...
*

the screen stamp is studio 490 and so are the scrolls...
*
All 3 flowers are Maya Road...the large is inked with broken china & it's stamped with the studio 490 bingo background. The medium is scattered straw & my polka dot background.
The cute center flower is called felt beaded blossom...
*
I LOVE LOVE LOVE black flowers!
*
I used my gingham background stamp on the letters & also to make a small border @ the top. Jet black archival ink for that.
One black eyelet and a little pen stitching added for detail...
*
That's it 'til Tuesday...I'll be back then with a CARSON convention report...and hopefully a photo or 2...
*
I hope to shop a bit in California...hey...
It's my civic DUTY to help the economy.
*
I hope Rick falls for that line..........

2 more studio 490/Maya Road samples

I've got to tackle #1 on the UGLY list...packing...

But first...a little art...

These are 2 more samples for our Stampers Anonymous booth @ Carson, for this weekend.

The base of the first is Maya Road's square scallop coaster...It's inked with vintage photo distress ink and just a bit of mustard seed was blended in...

The scrolls are studio 490...the background is the screen stamp(studio 490) and the tiny bit of handwriting is also a studio 490 background.

The flower is stamped (studio 490) on grungePAPER & inked with broken china.

The leaves(studio 490) were stamped on grungeBOARD, then overstamped with the gingham background (studio 490) & they are peeled paint distress ink.

I like combining the grunge PAPER with the grungeBOARD...the different thicknesses add interest...

The metal flowers are from tim's new idea-ology release...I like the snaps as flower centers. A PERFECT fit!

I LOVE the size & shape of Maya Road's rectangle scallop journaling coaster...

The base was inked with 3 distress inks...shabby shutters, peeled paint & broken china, (right over tim's mini mask...), then stamped with the polka dot background stamp (studio 490), using Ranger's coffee Archival ink...

I like coffee for the background...it seems to make the black saying (studio 490) stand out more...

The large Maya Road chipboard blossom is vintage photo...stamped again with the gingham stamp & jet black Archival ink...

The smaller flower is broken china with a bit of vintage photo added. The combo of vintage photo & broken china makes a great teal color.

That tiny charm on the top left is from Stampers Anonymous...
The flower center has been here for a while...no clue on where that guy came from...

For a final detail...Ranger's gold dabber paint was randomly swiped along the scallops.

Ok...no more delays...time to pack up some demo supplies and some clothes...

NOTICE...the art supplies come first! PRIORITIES!

So...that's my day...
PACKING...NOT...

NEW Maya Road ...studio 490 samples

Ok...we're back in business, after a trip to the camera MD...phew...I didn't want a new camera...I like this one.

Since Stampers Anonymous will be @ 2 conventions this weekend (Rockford Illinois & Carson, California)...we needed more samples for the booths.

Not a problem...just what I like to do...

MAKE ART! ha!

I got it in earlier in the post today...surprise!

Here's a fun little hanging, made with Maya Road's new rectangle scallop journaling coaster.

I picked up some fun...ODD sized mini canvases in California and this turned out to be the perfect fit.

The canvas is 2 inches by 4...and I only bought 6...it's sooo cute...

What was I thinking???

Take a look @ the flower...it's the poinsettia, from
The Art of making it Merry set...
(studio 490...incase you wondered...)

The chipboard was inked with brushed corduroy distress ink...
peeled paint for the grungeboard leaves & broken china for the flower...

Combining different background stamps changed the look...

change the colors...now it's no longer a poinsettia.

Next...

Add another addiction to the list...BIRDS!

This guy is a Maya Road chipboard, from the Birds of a feather tin & he's stamped with my fav gingham background stamp...

I traced an extra wing onto a scrap of grungePAPER, stamped it with the bingo background stamp & added it for the finishing touch.
***
Just a little dimension makes a BIG difference.
***
GrungePAPER locating info is in yesterday's post.
I'm happy that some of you ordered & have it coming.
You'll LOVE it!
***UPDATED@ 12:15*** I just talked to Daisy...only a few packages left. She expects to be SOLD OUT today..If you haven't found it yet...HURRY!

and she has grungePAPER in stock, as of this moment.
Hurry on over & get it before it's gone. The next shipment isn't due until late April...beginning of May.

She also has the new Graphic 45 papers there...I'm hearing that they are hard to find too??

Not associated...yada yada yada...

I just want my blog friends to be informed...and to get some fun stuff before it's gone!

inspiration...in a can?

We had another fun FLOWERY class @ Scrapadoodle in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday. Thanks to ALL for the great turn out!

These lucky gals got to play with tim's new grungePAPER...and make studio 490 flowers.

I warned them before class...flowers & grunge= addicting...They believe me now.

I dropped my camera...NOT A GOOD thing for sure...it's on the way to the camera MD now...which explains why there are no class photos...

You just might be happy that there are no new photos...
I had planned to TEASE the Scrap St. Louis chicks with a photo...
some of the Maya Road goodies we'll be using in my workshop arrived on Saturday...

I REALLY did want to show you...HONEST! ...ha!

So this is the best I could do for a new one.

Guaranteed to make you laugh.

a card and a ...Carson, Ca convention update

Instead of an ordinary birthday card...I thought I'd combine the card & gift all in one ...

So...here's a little card/gift hanging...guess what?

... it's 100% grunge...

The base is a page from tim's grungeboard book...

studio 490 flowers...AGAIN.....they're everywhere!

Ali from Hawaii asked me to be more specific on the colors used, when I post photos...ok.........

Here goes...

The distress ink colors for the base are...brushed corduroy, vintage photo, broken china....blended with the blending tool.

I added black soot to add some depth, with more added at the bottom to ground the flowers.

It was super easy to add a gold edge, using the paint dabber from Ranger.
It dries in an instant...

The leaves are peeled paint...the large flower is broken china & the tiny red one is mahogany. That sunflower looking one is mustard seed.

That's tim's mask in the center...that was FUN!

Almost all the stamps are studio 490, except for "dear friend".
That's from Printworks.

The script stamp @ the bottom is from tim's new release.

Ok...ALOHA ALI! I tried!

***THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the comments & emails about my birds.
Guess I'm not the only one who liked these guys!***
**

Here's a Carson convention update...

I spoke with Ted (Mr. SA) yesterday & he has a surprise for those attending that convention..

I noticed @ conventions that there are plenty of stamps to choose from, but NOTHING cool to stamp ON...

So...you lucky gals attending the Carson, Ca show get FIRST pick of the JUST ARRIVED Maya Road chipboard...

It arrived yesterday...ah........FRESH chipboard!

So now...Stampers Anonymous has cool stamps and cool stuff to stamp ON ...all in one convenient location...
all for your shopping pleasure. ha!

And there are LOTS of samples in the booth, to get the ideas flowing.

I bet you know what's coming next...

Have GREAT weekend and...

when is a flower...not a flower...and an edit!

When I attended Tim's Holiday Hideaway in December, I loved all the classes, but "THE BIRD class" stole my heart...it was a wooden bird, that we embellished with really cool vintage metal stuff...

That's my Holiday Hideaway tele-bird above.

I had so much fun that I HAD to find some birds...and make this project again...
but I wanted to change it up & make it studio 490 style.

It took me a while, but I found some different critters...

Since I'm basically a stamper...I wanted a stamped bird with plenty of dimension... and LOTS of embellishments too...

So to answer the question...

When is a flower NOT a flower???

When you change the flower into tailfeathers...

Here's one version of my new guys...with a

stamped grungepaper tail and a flower hat.

What you can't see on the photo, is that the Maya Road metal flower spins.. Kind of funny!

***edited***

We got brave...
I CLOSED MY EYES...

Rick drilled...

a hole in his beak...

AH.........the perfect place to carry a spare crown.

And here's his partner...this guy got studio 490 butterfly wings and a little party hat... which is held in place by a yummy
Maya Road jewel pin...

The tiny glasses were a perfect fit & make me laugh...

This fun new workshop is called..build a better bird....and that's exactly what we'll do...

look beyond the obvious stamp and build a bird.

See why I didn't want to tackle the uglies on the TO-DO list??

I just wanted to...

Scrap St. Louis peek...and another one too

One of the most FUN things on my TO-DO list, was to design my project for Scrap St Louis. I had a blast...

I Love the colors...they're perfect for spring!
WAIT...I'll always LOVE these colors...who am I kidding?

This tiny peek shows products from 3 of my sponsors...

Maya Road, Ranger and Stampers Anonymous...

BUT...there are some things that you can't see...just yet...

the goodies from tim holtz idea-ology and ...

a very cool new trinket from Ranger.

hmmm...I wonder what the rest of this looks like.........

I think there are just a few open spots.

So...

I hope you can...

Some things never change...and some do

One of the things I worked on yesterday was updating my bio for.....??

There were several easy questions...

The question I needed to find the info for was ...

any contests that I've won. hmmm...

I've only entered one contest...now I had to find the date.

I guessed how long ago it was...

2 years? A little more??

Looking thru old photos...I found this...

This card won first place in the 2005
Hero Art's Hearts & Love contest.

What??

2005?? Really? Time flies when you're making art!

My point here?

flowers and vintage photo...

Some things never change!

BUT........
some things DO change.

Here's a few questions for you...

When is a flower NOT a flower??
When is a leaf NOT a leaf?

Stay tuned and...

inspired by tim..........

Surprise...

a Sunday post...

hey...ANYTHING to keep me from the "ugly job" list...
working on taxes & writing instructions.

I LOVE to teach, but hate writing the instructions.
I'm MUCH rather have inky fingers..

Today's art was totally inspired by tim's new video.

He demoed this new technique @ CHA...using alcohol inks & canned air.

I watched the video & HAD to grab that air can...immediately!

tim does the technique on Ranger's glossy paper & it's very cool.

However, I like to take the technique & make it my own...but always give credit for the inspiration...

Here's my version of the technique, using the largest fragment, instead of the glossy paper.

I did the exact same technique...dripped the alcohol ink on the top of the fragement, then blasted it with the air.
I must say...

It was a BLAST...HA!

hey...I HAD to say it. It was a perfect fit...

Here's a shot of the blue, which is a great new color...
Sailboat blue.
There's also lettuce and a bit of denim.

I used a printed white paper, with a script on it...to make the colors pop. It was easy to edge the fragment with an Adirondack silver dabber.

I liked the look...but it just wasn't ME...

So... I grabbed the pesto & latte...dripped it on the fragment & blasted the air.

Now the cool thing about the alcohol ink/fragment combo...is that you can easily create dimension by stamping on the BACK of the fragment.

I used a studio 490 background stamp and Jet Black Archival Ink, by Ranger.

The alcohol ink is transparent, so the stamping shows up perfectly. It adds another layer & definitely makes a difference.

And no project is complete without a flower...no surprise there.

I hope this photo shows you that the stamping is under the alcohol ink.

I edged this fragment with the gold dabber...couldn't be easier...
I used a kraft colored background paper to give it more of a vintage look. Just a few dots, using the glaze pen finished it off.

Ah........this looks like me now!

One other thing to remember when using fragments and alcohol ink...

If you don't like your creation...if your stamping isn't perfect...
alcohol blending solution removes everything and you can start over.

So...hop on over & watch the video...

Like I said...it's a BLAST to...

MAKE ART!
