tuesday tidbits...

Phew...I'm back from a fun weekend in Orlando...
What a BLAST!! ...Fun in the sun!
Oh wait...make that fun in the HOTEL...

I didn't actually see the sun!

I taught 2 classes...we made studio 490 grunge flowers in one & we made a cute Maya Road hanging in the other.
Both were a hit, which makes me very happy.

I demoed nonstop for 2 full days...I LOVE LOVE LOVE that!

Lesson learned...stampers LOVE to SHOP...

The Stampers Anonymous booth was buzzing the entire time...
some gals spent the whole weekend there with me...
I'm sure they were just doing their best to help the economy...
believe me...THEY DID!

You guys know who you are!!
THANKS so much!!

Lesson learned...BUY it when you see it.
If it's being demoed...it's ALL gone quickly...then you have to place an order & not have it in your hot little hands when you leave...sad...

Lesson Learned...it's HOT without AC in Orlando...

Lesson learned...leave the camera @ home...
I didn't use it AGAIN!

Lesson learned...don't get into a car with strangers...
but hey...they turned out to be sweet friends.
Thanks TERRY & CO for inviting me to join you guys for dinner.
That was fun!

More tidbits...

Remember that giveaway I promised to celebrate my book?

Here's a peek @ what Ranger sent...look!!!!!!!!!! They sent...

EVERY product I used in the book...NOT just the inks...

They even included a craft sheet!
I see Perfect pearls...and lots more...

Some lucky blog poster will have fun playing with all this...

I'm not exactly sure what we'll do for the drawing...
but I will keep you updated here...

And speaking of giveaways...
Michelle, Mrs. Stampers Anonymous, gave me something COOL to give away...

I think we'll do that later this week.

Next stop on the art adventure is the stamping convention in CARSON California...

I can't wait...

tim & I have something special...

VERY SPECIAL planned...here's a peek...

We'll be making..........?????????

WE'LL???

WHAT?????????

That's a story for another day...

Stay tuned...and while you're waiting...

make art!

wendy

ps...one more tidbit...
for those of you begging to see my new stamps...they're here...
and they've been in previous posts too...
I'm just saying...
keep your eyes open...

I found this oldie...

Once again...the "eye thing!"
The title is...words to live by...

Stampers Anonymous stamps...loved them then...
LOVE them now!

The covers are large...about 8x8...the inside pages are about 6x6...

LOVE these stamps...

this lifts...

this is under it...

just an extra word in 2007...

Make (COLLAGE) art!
Some things never change!
wendy
ps...book info...Nope can't show the cover yet...it's NOT done...
The book will be the same size as my stamp sets...

thank you, pre-art & REAL art

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
from the bottom of my heart...

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO VERY MUCH for all the sweet blog comments & special emails.
You made me soooooo HAPPY!

A special THANK YOU to my friend, tim...
how did I ever get SO lucky?

Believe me...I'm dieing to see what the final result looks like too!

You KNOW I am NOT a patient person...
so the wait is KILLING me too!

I HOPE Ted & Zach (he's the computer genius @ Stampers Anon)read this & HURRY!

To answer some BOOK questions...

* I don't know the price just yet...
That's up to Mr Stampers Anonymous to decide...

I just "make art"...he's the brains of the outfit!

BUT...just as soon as I know, I'll post it here.
We're keeping it very reasonable...that I DO know for sure.

*No...I won't be selling the books...
you'll be able to get them thru eclecticPaperie, Stampers Anonymous & any LSS that place orders thru Stampers Anonymous.

*Autographed copies?? I'll have to ask Ted about that too...
I'm not sure how things like that work...

*AND...I'll be back with an update on the GIVEAWAY celebration...

Here's a little hint to keep you interested...

RANGER has donated EVERY ink that I used in the book...

Let's see... that's 9 different colors of distress ink, 3 Archival's, a snow cap white PIGMENT...and...

then you need a blending tool & replacement foam pads...and that's JUST the BEGINNING!

Actually...they donated ...

EVERY Ranger product...

that I used for the ALL the projects...

How cool and GENEROUS is that?

THANKS Justin & Alain!!! I LOVE RANGER!
Again I ask...how did I get so lucky??

PHEW...

OK...enough book stuff...

I'm working away on Maya Road CHA stuff...so I can't show completed projects yet...

but here's some PRE-ART...

I'm in LOVE with minis...these cute little (4x4) papers are from Jenni Bowlin...

brushed corduroy distress ink blended all these to make the perfect background...

That part of the album turned out cool...and was so much fun...

so I continued with the same format...this time using the YUMMY

graphic 45 papers...serious drool material!

I like the finished project...
I'll show you just as soon as Caroline says it's OK...

Now for some completed REAL ART!

A few weeks ago, eclecticPaperie & I teamed up for a giveaway/contest.

The winner was Michele King... she guessed the correct TOTAL number of studio 490 stamps...

The goofy girl saved her address label from my goodie box to her...and sent me a photo of MY art...HA!
Looks good on her counter...

I like to send adorned envelopes...except for bills...
they don't deserve ink...

I got a thank you email from Michele last week...with photos of her art...

She used some of her "win" to make this adorable framed gift...

Here's Michele with the project and modeling her cute eclecticPaperie apron...

She used her grungepaper for the flower & leaves...

Maya Road's black scallop ric rac made the perfect stem...

CUTE mini alphas from Maya Road...part of her prize...

and I see a scallop studio 490 stamp...and a stamp over the letters...

The saying is perfect for the photo...
I LOVE this Michele...thanks for allowing me to share it.
You did a GREAT JOB!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your goodies!
That's it for today...
The giveaway "scoop" will be announced just as soon as I get the details all worked out...
I hope Michele has inspired you to...
make art!
wendy
ps...thanks again!

a few hints...a peek and some NEWS!

The begging has begun! Our cruise gals are BEGGING for some hints...

I'm happy to oblige...and put an end to your misery....

From me you can expect...

tim's distress inks ...
and
grunge...
and...for sure...
Maya Road chipboard!

There you go...ha!

Now for the CRUISE projects...
that's a story for another day...and today is NOT that day! SORRY!

BUT...here's a little new studio 490 stamp peek...to tide you over.

To give you a "perspective"...the staples are from tim's tiny attacher, which are 1/4th inch long...
thus the name...TINY!
He's a Genius!

Or as my UK friends say...BRILLIANT!
That makes me laugh!

Looks to me like the screen stamp is on some grungepaper???
and.........a leaf or 2 & a stem?
Ok...that's enough for today...before I get carried away!

Now it's...
*********************

DRUMROLL time...
*********************

I am so very excited to tell you that I'm doing something that I've had LOTS of requests for...
I've had this on my mind for over a year.

I tried REALLY hard to get this done for CHA-W, but no go...

It came about because I get lots of emails from gals saying that they'll never make it to a class...they live too far away...
and want MORE info...

So...I made this an ART PRIORITY!

Coming soon...VERY soon...(like in a few weeks)...

I did an idea book! JUST FOR YOU!!

It's called...
make art...studio 490 style!

It has 17 projects...nice color photos...

complete supply lists and...

complete step by step instructions on how to recreate each project in the book.

It's like 17 workshops!

I also wrote several pages of helpful hints and tips.
Things to make your "arting" easier.

I also tell you about my favorite products and why they are my absolute favorites...and there are plenty of tips on how to use them.

I LOVE to teach in person...and I wasn't sure how this book thing would go...
but I actually had fun, once I got the ball rolling.

I liked the fact that since it's being printed by Stampers Anonymous...

I had no editor...

you get me...the real me...just as I talk...
I got to do exactly what I wanted...
If you remember a few posts ago...
I always want to be "in charge"...so...

I got to write things like this...

"Buy the reinker when you buy the pads…TRUST ME!
You’ll be happy that you did.
Dry pads show up @ midnight when the stores are all closed & you NEED it NOW!
Like I said…TRUST ME!"

I'm expecting it to be ready for sale @ the Carson, California convention in July...
then stores can place their orders @ CHA thru Stampers Anonymous.

There will be a special GIVEAWAY when the release gets closer...
we'll be giving away a book or 2 for sure and some
"art supplies" too....
this will be something SPECIAL!
I PROMISE!

Maybe we'll have another contest of some sort...
hmmm...still thinking...

Well...that's my news & I hope you are as excited as I am...

Please tell me what you think...

then go...
make art!
wendy
PS...OMG! I made a HUGE mistake...the Maya Road warehouse sale is NOW thru July 10th...YIKES! I thought it started July 10th...
SORRY! So much for new glasses...

old as the hills...

no...not me, silly blog friends...

OK...I AM old...I KNOW that...

but that's not what this post is all about...

I was looking in a drawer the other day & came across this...

It's a 2005 issue of Altered Arts...

Hmmmmmm...
I wondered why I would save a magazine that's SOOOOOO old...

I don't like trash sitting around...
(unless it's cool vintage stuff!)...

so I usually toss magazines after I've looked at them...

This might be why I saved it...

I flipped thru to see what else was in that issue & found this...

HA! Totally forgotten...

This is when I first started this art adventure...
It's one of about 6 things I've ever submitted...

As you'll see...still lovin' the same color pallette...

The deal opens on the left & inside is a tiny file folder...

I remember thinking...pure genius...ha!

And on the left here...a little card pulls out...

Looks like I have a THING for putting stuff over eyes...
here...

...and here ...
like on my art chick...

I wonder what a shrink would have to say about that!

So the moral of the story??

FATE!

In GOOD company then...

In GOOD company NOW!

We chatted last night & all I can say is...

get ready for some REAL FUN!!!!!

Yep...all caps...

we're TOTALLY EXCITED!

I don't want summer to end...
but we're counting the days 'til the FUN begins!

What else before I go???

quick custom embellishment...

This is hanging off a...?????

YIKES...I better not show it...

But...I can show this...

I needed something small and square to add to a CHA project...
I like custom stuff...
*
Hmmm...what could I do?
*
Enter...Ranger's Memory frames...with the new "cute as snot" memory capsules.
*
I cut the pin part off Maya Road's trinket pin & used just the cool leaf. It was a perfect fit for the 1 inch square memory capsule.

YIPPEE!
Just exactly what I needed...small, square & perfect coordinating color.
I LOVE it when things fit as planned.........
*
Here's the simple how to...
*Cut a 1 x 1 square of cardstock & stamp a background...
I think studio 490 would look the best...
but that's just my opinion! ha!
*
*Cut the sharp metal from the pin
*
*Glue the leaf to the center of the cardstock square
*
*Make sure nothing is larger than the glass
*
*From the bottom...layer a piece of memory glass, your art & the memory capsule on top
*
*Lift the tiny tab on the side of the memory frame & open the frame just enough to allow you to insert the art sandwich
*
*Insert the tab back into the slot & close
*
I cut off the rings that came attached to the frame & used 2 jump rings to attach the memory collage to my...??? ART!
To embellish the bottom ring, I used a washer, a long fastener and a spinner.
*
It couldn't be easier...
***
Some of you have been asking about sneak peeks of new studio 490 stamps...I'm HAPPY that you're excited too!
***
I'm just saying...
if you've been paying attention...
***
And that special announcement is coming later this week...
Something that you've asked for...
it's "in the works" as we speak...
my part is done...I THINK!
I'm EXCITED...very excited to tell you the juicy details!
***
I'm just saying...later this week...
stay tuned and
make art!
wendy
ps...THANKS from the bottom of my heart for the SWEET comments & emails about my last post. I sincerely appreciate it!

stepping outside the box...

this was something new for me...

NOT the art...that's the same old me...
but what's behind the art...

I was asked to be a guest artist @ creativetherapy...

and I was given this catalyst...

"Create art around someone or something that you still have unfinished business with (something that’s been bothering you for a while)".

I immediately had this idea...
for the ART part of the article...

But, since I don't scrapbook, I have no experience journaling...

I only write goofy stuff here to make my friends laugh!

Anyway...

Hmmm...
did I really want to share the thoughts behind the art???

Would it sound stupid?
Would it make me sad?

SADDER?

Still thinking...

I'll stall around a bit more...trying to decide...

You KNOW...

All my art MUST have at least one flower somewhere!
Here's a look...

Ok...I'll be brave, since the journaling is posted on the site...
it says...
Mom…

I’d love to talk to you just one more time.

It’s been 20 years since your passing…but it seems like forever. So many things have happened since then. My life took an unexpected turn, in September of 2007, when fate stepped in. I wish that you were here to enjoy my new career.

After 30 years, I’m no longer a surgery nurse manager…now I’m an ARTIST! Imagine that…
If you remember my kindergarten report card, one of the comments that Mrs. Yazbeck wrote was...
“Wendy is very creative”.

I had no clue until recently, but I’m sure this creativity came from you.

So now instead of working in a sterile controlled surgery environment, I do my best to get my fingers inky every day! I’m not as shy as I used to be. I bet you’d be surprised to know I travel around the country (all by myself!) helping others to enjoy this art of stamping. I’m working hard & having a blast!

I have some awesome art & business friends who you would just LOVE! I’m so sad that I’ll never get to introduce you to them. They are all very kind and so supportive. I really lucked out here…they are THE BEST!

I wish you could see how totally happy I am with my life. I think you’d enjoy seeing my art and what has become of me. I’m sure you would be proud of my success.

There’s lots more to say…lots more I want to tell you.

I just need to talk to you..

one more time.

Love,
wendy
*PHEW! DONE!
Now for a laugh...
*
If you've taken a class from me you've heard the longer version of the story about the rest of the report card...
we found it when we cleaned my dad's house after he died a few years ago...
*
I'll make it the short version...
*
Her comments...
Very sociable....
Very creative...
*
Here's the good part...
*
TENDS to be BOSSY! Always wants to be in control!
That was @ age 5...imagine me now!
YIKES!
*
Before you ask...
Here are the project credits...
*
The base is one page from Maya Road's Rectangle banner book
The chipboard letters...from Maya Road too.
*
So is the yummy brown double stitched ribbon and my favorites...the microchip hearts.
*
The base is inked with Ranger's brushed corduroy distress ink...lately I'm using it more than my usual vintage photo...
I know...it's shocking!
*
But I REALLY love it with broken china...
*
The stamping is done with both jet black & coffee archival inks...
*
the flower is grungepaper...
*
The stamps...studio 490 of course!
*
So...I really was OUTSIDE MY BOX...
but I did OK...
*
Now I really need to...
make art!
wendy
ps...there's MORE art from others on the creativetherapy site...check it out. See how others interpreted the catalyst...

one tiny little peek...and one tiny little hint...

you asked for peeks...
Here's the best I can do for now...
Hey...it's better than nothing!~
Click for a larger image!
Any guesses?
and a hint...
I'm working on "something" that I've had lots of requests for...
working away to get it done for CHA for sure...
but maybe...
just maybe...
Carson???
REALLY? I hope so!!
Have a great weekend and remember to take time to...
make art!

ps...sorry to tease you ...
well...
NOT REALLY!

2 with...one without...

flowers...that is!

So, you guys REALLY do read the goofy stuff I write.
That makes me laugh...

When I was teaching in SC a few weeks ago, a gal asked why I haven't posted any summer FLOWER shoes yet...

Then I got an email asking the same thing...

I would never want to disappoint my blog friends...

SO.................

I went shopping JUST FOR YOU!
Hey...I needed some photos to post anyway!

I made a quickie stop in the shoe department @ VonMaur before the bird class on Saturday...

I spotted these guys...

Hmmm...very comfy...with a flower or 3...

So I said..."do they come in black".

He checked & said "yes....we can order them for you. They should arrive in 6 weeks".

WHAT???????

Obviously he doesn't know that I have ZERO patience...
6 weeks?
Summer will be over!!!!!!!!!
He must be mad!!

So I bought the green...

Then I decided to see what I could find on the net...

I HIGHLY recommend zappos...

They had the black in stock...

I didn't pay for the quick shipping...
I thought I could survive the wait... 4-5 business days & get free shipping.

BUT...a few minutes after I placed my order...I got an email that said I would get QUICK shipping for free!
YIPPEE...

So the order I placed on Monday arrived yesterday...I'm impressed &...
they're BLACK!

The withouts...

these have no flowers but are way comfy...& they had my size @ Von Maur!
I'll be able to fly thru airports @ record speed...
I'm certain of that!

I'm not associated with zappos...yada yada...
but when I like something...

REALLY like something...
I tell everyone.

Somedays I'm a cheap date...
some days...
NOT!
oh well.........

make art!

build a better bird workshop photos...

Get ready to see an AWESOME FLOCK that was created @ Scrapbook Friend'z in Bloomington, Illinois on Saturday.

Special thanks to CHERYL & APRILE for coming to the rescue & sending photos.
I forgot my camera...DUH!
Old age sucks!

Each of these started out as a generic wooden bird...then they were embellished with the goodies I brought.

First...the gals dug for treasures...in the goodie pile and chose bits & pieces that inspired them...
then...
they sanded the critters and applied distress inks...

They made custom embellishments using...

grungepaper and studio 490 stamps.

You'll also see some Maya Road pins...(those cool pearls and the leaves)...

Some chose to use foliage parts, from tim's idea-ology line...

Each one seemed to develop a personality as you'll see below...

Grab an iced tea...and click on each photo to get a better view.
I think you'll be amazed!

It's fun to see each person's TAKE on the charms...watch closely & you'll see some of the same pieces used different ways...

Jeanne is test driving her bird on a vintage pair of binoculars...

her hubby couldn't understand why she would BUY binoculars with broken lenses...

Silly man...
the answer is very SIMPLE...
to...

MAKE ART! ha!

funky flower as tail feathers

studio 490 leaves as tailfeathers...the possibilities are endless!

Sheila laughed when she gave her guy a sombrero looking hat...

the bow tie makes me laugh!

Aprile made this...

and she went home & immediately made another!

monochromatic...I LOVE IT!

studio 490 butterfly used as wings...

Ah...that was fun!
Please leave a comment & let the gals know what you think of their art...

Have a great day and as always...
I hope you've been inspired to...

Make Mine Mini Art has 14 mini stamps ... and one nice long border stamp!
The sheet is FULL of minis!
It's the stamp bargain of the century! ha!

I LOVE suspense and being surprised!!
I hope the winner does too!

So...here are the rules and how you can enter to win...

I currently have 14 studio 490 stamp SETS...
a SET is a page FULL of stamps.

It looks like this...

(it's currently SOLD OUT @ eP...but they did reorder!)

SC weekend report...

Morning!!

Talk about southern hospitality!!

WOW!!
I had a wonderful weekend in Columbia, SC @ The Stamping Place...
thanks Barb/Judy for inviting me.

It was a total BLAST!

Lots of laughs...lots of art...lots of new arty friends...
LOTS of VERY inky fingers...
it'll wash off...eventually...
REALLY...
TRUST ME!

We officially opened Barb's new AWESOME classroom with 4 fun classes.

It's HUGE...you lucky gals...
what an ideal place for classes & crops...
go & check it out!!

One of the classes we did was the famous...
Build a better bird class...they LOVED IT and I was blown away by their ART!

I pulled out my camera @ the end of the class...got a few photos, then my camera battery croaked...
the charger was back @ the hotel...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

But I do have these beauties to show you ....
unfortunately I only have 3...

Maybe some kind soul has some photos to share??

I'd love to post them all...you've got to see these cool creations...

This gal had a TIME theme...
her dad was a jeweler...
hence the theme...
perfect!

Maya Road's leaf trinket pins made an adorable embellishment for the hat...

And the last...

These wings were made from the studio 490 butterfly stamp...
tailfeathers are made from the funky flowers stamp
