Some Maya Road DT assignments....

On Friday, I posted a peek. Today...here's the whole enchilada!

This was one of my assignments for the New York Stationary show, for Maya Road. It's the treasure box loaded with fragment fun. The lid has a recessed area with a sheer insert, so I played with the fragments until I found a pleasing pattern that fit the recess.

All the rub-ons are by Maya Road and what is REALLY fun is using such small bits of them. If you enlarge the photo, you'll see small sections from the Cubical sheet. The paper is by Basic Grey. It's their Archaic line. LOVE it!

I'm sure you recognize my fav Stampers Anonymous stamp, by now. It seems to fit with any project or style. Just a few MR trinkets metal blossoms ( bent) and some glaze pen dots and the box was complete. This will be added to the classes that I currently offer. It's great for using those scraps & left overs, instead of tossing them in the trash.

Since this is a stationary show, we were also asked to design some cards for display. Here's my favorite, using 2 pages of Maya Road's square banner book as the base. It's embellished with their crushed velvet ribbon, button and the trinkets metal flower...again.

I adore this paper by Heidi Swapp. It's perfect for guy cards or vintage projects. The large image stamp is from Paper Bag Studios. The "defined" is from Maya Road. It's in the DEFINED set. Hmmm...that seems appropriate for the title!

Here's a closeup of the crackle paint on a MR corner scroll. When these paints were first introduced, I didn't think I'd NEED the black. I didn't think that the cracks would show up very well...WRONG.!!! It's actually one of my favorites now. It adds great texture & dimension.

And a look @ the inside...

If you enlarge this photo, you'll see that the trinkets metal flowers are fun to cut in half, for a new look.

For more ideas & inspiration...make sure you sign up for the consumer newsletter from Maya Road. Caroline is working on it now & it will be sent later this week. The DT got a sneak peek over the weekend & I know you'll LOVE it! AND...the price is great...It's FREE! Sign up here.

The sun is out & yes...the furnace is STILL on.
Come back tomorrow..there's more!!

Maya Road, Stampers Anonymous & Ranger...

Today's photo is one of my favorite CHA assignments. It's loaded with products and embellishments from my 3 favorite companies...(see title, incase you can't guess who they are!) This baby took me a solid week to complete & weighs a ton. A week?? YES...I probably have 40 hours invested...I TOLD you I was slow...
***********************************
If this paper is ever discontinued, I'll cry. It's Periphery, by Basic Grey. LOVE it!
***********************************
If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you'll see what really thrilled me. Look on the "E"...for "the journey of a lifetime"....That's a mini rub-on from the UPC area of the rub on sheet. I wondered for quite sometime, if that was printed or an actual rub on..It's a rub on & it was a perfect fit, both for the title (Notes & quotes, for the journey of a lifetime) and the space available on the "E". Little details make me happy.
**********************************
Now check out the Heart & Home ruler in the header. See the tiny "Maya Road"?? Same mini rub on. It's a small detail, but it finishes the project. Gives the street a name...
**********************************
So...the moral of the story today?? Look @ everything, not for what it IS...but for the possibilities. WASTE nothing! Now if the words Maya Road aren't appropriate for your project...use the mini letters individually...not the right letters?? Mix them up with other fonts. Random is good.........See how much FUN this is??
***********************************
Yesterday I told you about my thrilling invite to Absolutely Everything in Massachusettes. I worked on samples to send to Kate. I hope to have them mailed off to her in the next few days.
The day got even better...
**********************************
Last night I got an email from Michelle Cutts...Mrs. STAMPERS ANONYMOUS. I'm teaching 2 inky grungey classes @ the convention in Rockford, Illinois, on Friday March 14th. Guess what??? Ted (Mr. STAMPERS ANONYMOUS) can't be there...so...I get to demo in their booth! So...if you're in the Rockford area...come play with stamps, ink & grungeboard. It's great fun!
**********************************
Time to get to work. I think I'm busier now than when I had a real job. RETIRED??? Not really...but I've NEVER been happier!
THANKS ...Maya Road, Stampers Anonymous & Ranger! Actually tim & Robin...
Enjoy the day!

Collections

Can't have a post without a photo. That would be boring. Here's the best I can do for today...sorry...no art! Top secret stuff!!
We both love to visit antique malls & flea markets in the summer. One of the things I collect is cool printers blocks. So, I gathered these from my studio & I'm trying out my Christmas camera. I have got to get better @ this picture taking stuff VERY SOON.
Guess I forgot a few things yesterday. Here's everything you need to know...
1. The tiny LOVE YOUR LIFE stamp is from Hero Arts. It's a perfect fit for the medium size McGill tag punch.
2. Yes, the paper is Basic Grey's Periphery. I'm addicted.
3. The Dyson deal...regular price is $459. On SALE this week @ Target for $389. But wait, it gets better. Open a Target charge account & get 10% off your first day purchase. So, the out the door price was $374. I was quite proud of myself.
4. Nope...it was me behind the Dyson today. Ginny might win the contest. (see her comment in the post below, to get the story)
And a little tip...save your $$$ for some new cool Maya Road products. We got some peeks yesterday. One word...WOW!!!!!!!!
Can't wait 'til these goodies arrive on my doorstep.
The end...
Happy Wednesday.

Ok...so it's not red & yellow, but........

kind of different for me. I've received some teasing emails about using other colors. I pulled out some reds, but I just couldn't give in! Here's the best I could do...
3 stamps, Adirondack Butterscotch over Basic Grey paper for the background, a little embellishing & this is the result. A fun & pretty simple card!
Happy Wednesday! Groceries for me...I'd rather buy STAMPS!!

ps...that ugly bump on the right corner doesn't show in real life...must be a poor photography job...

Addicted to crack...and a few random things..

I know..I deserve the BAD BLOGGER award! SORRY, but my excuse is..... I'm addicted to crack. This paint is absolutely foolproof. The bird and branch are from Maya Road. The bird got a dose of faded jeans distress crackle paint & the branch is done with shabby shutters. The background paper is from the Periphery collection, Basic Grey. LOVE IT!! Can't show you the whole project, but take my word for it... SHEER fun!

And more rub-on talk...I got a call yesterday from Karan, who owns Magic Mesh. She found my blog & offered this little tip, which amazed me. Rub-ons can be applied OVER Magic Mesh, for a cool effect. I tried it & it's fun. I had no clue that it can also be embossed & painted over. Interesting play. I think it's great for all the sheer products and acrylic products that seem to be so popular these days. The reason...NO adhesive is needed & it looks great on both sides!

I've heard from all 3 who won prizes on the blog. All of the packages arrived @ their destination. However, I still haven't heard from E. So...I still have this adorable chipboard train album (and a few other trinkets) waiting for a new home. Interested??? Tell me why you NEED it & I'll see if Rick can be talked into another drawing...very soon!!!

That's all I can think of for now.

Have FUN...Make ART.

Lessons learned on Thursday...

Here's a look @ a store sample, done with an acrylic tag and rub-ons from 7 gypsies, Fontwerks and Maya Road. These are the 10 things I learned today...

1. God did not create all rub-ons equal. Being a rubber stamper, I had very little experience with them, so this was a HARD lesson learned. I won't name the bad ones, maybe they work on paper or maybe they are 100% JUNK......but I did find out that Maya Road, Daisy D's, 7 gypsies , Fontwerks and Basic Grey work very well on acrylic. I have some other well known brands that I've not tried yet...but I will.

2. Some rub-ons just flake off or just fall off the protective paper when you LQQK @ them. That made me upset.

3. Some rub-ons can be removed by wiping them with window cleaner.

4. Some can be removed only with rubbing alcohol or by scraping them off. I tried Goo-Gone too...

5. Acrylic attracts fingerprints. Imagine that!

6. Acrylic projects are not easy to photograph.

7. Some rub-ons are black on both sides and some are not. Sometimes this matters...sometimes not.

8. Words & numbers MUST go on the front of acrylic.

9. Patterns, flowers, designs and other things can be applied to the back of the acrylic to create dimension.

10. Acrylic is FUN and WAYYYYY different than paper!
