art, fit for a queen...

I'm celebrating good news!!!!!

my CHA W-12 stamp images are finished & sent off to be magically transformed into real rubber stamps...

for release late January...

my CHA W-12 ART PARTS are finished...(almost)...

I just need to decide on what's included in the packages...

I been working on *a little something* & it's moving along well...

so... I *thought* I deserved a play day...

and play I did...

the idea has been brewing since tim introduced the rock candy crackle paint...

I wanted to use it on glass...

but since the crackle paint needs "tooth" to grab onto...

the glass was too slick for the crackle to do it's job...

believe me...I did try...

I sanded the glass...or so I thought...

then painted the crackle on the glass...let it dry...

it looked beautiful...

UNTIL...

I picked it up to inspect it...

then it all fell off...

lol...

so I knew it would be a cool effect...

if I could get it to work...

and I did...

the glass bottle below is right from the store...

(a Marshall's find)

I painted on a thin layer of Ranger's Glue N Seal...

I like the matte finish...

and let it dry...

when it was completely dry...

I attacked it with the crackle paint...

I was bound & DETERMINED to make this work...

I don't give up easily...

I wanted big cracks...

so I painted on a pretty thick layer...

then added some extra strength drips...

then I sat & crossed my fingers...

and stared @ the bottle...

pure MAGIC!!!!!

I am IN LOVE...

I used pumice stone distress stain to accent the cracks...

and a bit of espresso pigment ink,

added with the blending tool...

for a little more color...

here's the finished bottle...

a total transformation...

from brand spankin new...

to very vintage...

with the addition of a little lace,

an idea-ology tassel & some foliage leaves,

a Maya Road vintage trinket button...

and some rhinestone trim...

the crackle effect is flippin cool, if I say so myself...

it's even better than I expected...

it's now...

art...FIT FOR A QUEEN!

I think this new awesome cracked glass technique

has LOTS of possibilities...

I've got an idea-ology corked vial drying now...

it's looking really good!

and speaking of awesome...

how about the new seasonal distress inks for winter?

makes you drool...kind of AWESOME!!!

what beautiful colors...

I hope you can grab a generic bottle, some Glue N Seal...

this is the big bottle...no brush...

but more cost effective to refill the small bottle (that has the brush)...

some rock candy crackle paint...

same thing here...large bottle to refill the small...

this is just too much fun...

the base is an art parts small creative cover...

the art parts covers are the perfect starting points for a project,

because they are just a nice solid surface...

they are VERY reasonably priced...

they (and all art parts) accept tim's distress stains like a dream...

they can also easily be inked with the blending tool & distress inks...

or sprayed with Adirondack Color Washes too...

or...painted...

or covered with patterned paper...

the art parts flourishes are new...

as is the 6 petal art parts flower...

the beautiful bling button in the center of the flower is from Maya Road...

the cool pearls are from Prima...

sorry this was my last piece & I'm not sure of the exact name or even if they are still available...

here's the traditional look...

using the "artist definition background"...

next is another member of the DOOR KNOB family...

you'll see LOTS of new art parts here...

the umbrella & the flower...

the grungeboard flower is sitting on one piece of the art parts spool...

a few of the details...

it's hard to see, but there is a clear tim bauble hanging from the umbrella, to look like rain drops...

to make the tiny hole in the umbrella, I used his drill punch...

she has a spider on her nose...

and the mini crown stamp turned upside down to make eyelashes...

the white dot in the eye is Ranger's Inkssentials white pen...

and I used Ranger's Cut N Dry nibs to color in the small areas (lips & eye)...

and here's the same "artist definition background" used on the wings, for a funky/edgy effect...

so totally different from the first project...

the wings were inked with the new mustard seed distress stain & stamped with my new favorite vermillion archival...

this color combo just speaks to me...

again, the drill punch makes the perfect sized hole for jump rings...

and I LOVE that the hole edges are perfectly smooth...

so the moral of today's post is that rubber stamps are versatile...

they can be anything YOU want them to be...

cake stand art...***EDIT***

I just finished another page in my art journal...

I thought you might like to see it...

this started with the flat cake stand & now it has LOTS of fun stuff sitting on it...

like the art parts ink bottles, flower, leaves &

tim's new pen nib...

the art parts page was inked with peeled paint distress stain...

stamped with the ticking stamp, using olive archival...

a portion of the doily was stamped at the top, using the gold paint dabber...& I also used the gold dabber around the edge...

the shading/distressing was done with walnut & the blending tool...

the trim strip @ the bottom, is a piece of the art parts straight flower stem...

stamped with a portion of this stamp...

I added tim's long fasteners to accent the holes in the scallop trim...

the large ink bottle art part was stamped with the coordinating stamp (jet black) then inked with broken china distress stain...

the smaller art parts bottle was also stamped with the coordinating stamp, then inked with wild honey distress stain...

I stamped an extra label on a manila cardstock scrap, using black soot distress ink & embossed it with clear embossing powder & then very lightly inked it with brushed corduroy...

remember...

distress inks are GREAT for embossing...

did you spot the "look" embellishment?

I painted tim's sprocket gear with the gold dabber & punched LOOK, to make a custom epoxy embellishment...

it's simple...

fill it with Glossy Accents...

and allow to dry for several hours (4-5?)...

and I LOVE the larger space when using the sprocket gear...

more options to add LOTS of words...

or numbers...

or...?

the flower & leaves are stamped on vintage dictionary paper which was added over Clearly for Art...

I cover a whole sheet of the Clearly for Art with Glue N Seal, add the dictionary page, brayer it to make it nice flat...

dry...

then I stamped the leaves with the NEW Sap Green archival ink...

and the flower with jet black...

***EDIT*** THE NEW Archival ink colors have arrived...

French Ultramarine...

Saffron...

Monarch Orange...

Vermillion...great for holiday's

I think these are a good starter group when used with my other fav archival...coffee, jet black & olive...

by adding paper to the Clearly for Art, you create the look of a fragile paper flower, but because it's over CFA, it very strong & durable!

I like to have a sheet ready to go...

it saves time...

just stamp, cut, ink & make art...

I'm LOVING the Glue N Seal...(the matte finish)

NO BUBBLES...even when using thin papers...

heaven...

plus...the built in brush saves clean up time...

the cute flower center is a Maya Road gingham blossom...

I'm not sure if it's finished...

I may add a butterfly or something the the pedestal bottom???

or not...

speaking of the flat cake stand...

my original thought was to use it for a birthday/graduation/baby/anniversary card...

just set a little package on it...

then stamp a sentiment...

fun...

I have a new art parts piece coming that is a perfect fit...

just sayin... I can't wait!!!

I got the proofs for the new stamp sets yesterday...

12 large sets this time...

I'm flippin excited...& can not wait to get the REAL stamps here...

first order of duty is to thank everyone who took my Ranger Inks, studio 490 style marathon workshop last Saturday...

it's 6 hours of pure inky fun...

The Scrapbooking Studio in Moline, Illinois is a shoppers paradise...

WOW...

it was LOADED with wonderful products you need to...

make art...

we had a great fun TALENTED group of 36 gals...

lots of space to spread out...

LOTS of inks to play with...

pizza for lunch...

treats for energy...

a birthday cake to celebrate a birthday...

thanks to everyone who came from all over Illinois, Iowa & even Indiana...

thanks for all your sweet comments...

believe me...I had fun too!

Rick even made a guest appearance!

I had been sick all week, so he drove me there & helped with set up & packing @ the end of the day...

gotta LOVE a hubby who *gets* what I do...

NEXT...

a few days ago, I showed the cover of an art parts journal that I started...

here's a page, also made from a small creative cover...

take note of her stylish (freaky) eyelashes...

no I wasn't drinking...

I just thought the mini crown turned upside down & trimmed a bit could work as eyelashes...

the small manila tag was inked with tim's new antique linen distress stain...

then distressed with walnut stain distress ink & the blending tool...

I added some machine stitching...

the ticking background stamp was inked with the new AWESOME french ultramarine...

I WILL be using this color lots...I LOVE IT!

the creative cover was inked with weathered wood distress stain...& the script was stamped with french ultramarine archival...

I *told* you I LOVE it...

moving back a bit...

I made a tag swatch so that I could show the new archival colors @ my workshop on Saturday...

I like to do this when we get new colors...

I'll refer to it until I'm sure what each color will look like...

I do this until I've used them a few times & I KNOW them well...

for this journal page I used 3 of my NEW FAVORITE archivals...

in addition to my usual jet black & coffee...

the labels do not do justice to the ink colors...

IMHO...

they are much prettier when stamped...

here's a better look @ those eyelashes...

the mini metal heart started out as silver, but I altered it with the new rose madder archival...

just tap the pad right on the heart...

the flower center is a Maya Road resin flower...

I added a tiny rhinestone to accent the center...

the art parts flower was inked with weathered wood distress stain...

yep...addicted to the stains...

they make you LAZY...

you'll especially see this with antique linen & weathered wood...

they are so quick & give awesome coverage...

how did we live without them?

how much longer do we need to wait for the other 24?

just asking...

the art parts key was textured by pouncing the gold paint dabber over it...

when dry, I distressed it with coffee archival & the new monarch orange archival...

just rub the pad right over the dry paint...

*** here's a tip...***

if you add too much ink...

just wipe some off before it dries with a paper towel...

if you REALLY hate it...

a drop of alcohol blending solution on a Q-Tip will remove it all & you can start over...

the textured paint & archival colors really give the appearance of rust...

here's something I forgot to mention...

a few weeks ago, Anika asked about starting a Flickr group, as a place to share photos of projects using studio 490 stamps...

I thought she had a GREAT IDEA...

here's another art parts project that I finished up yesterday...

I wanted a new sample for my demo table...

so, starting with the spools...

and the residences...

here's my latest...

the actual starting point was

the awesome Maya Road Antique Button Jewels...

the minute I got them, I knew immediately they would be perfect for a flower center...

they look very pricy...

but they are quite reasonably priced...

here's a closer look...

the flowers are stamped on clearly for art, which was covered with a vintage dictionary page, using Ranger's new Glue N Seal...(I LOVE the matte)...

did you spot tim's new mini leaf peeking out?

it's cut from grungeboard & stamped with the medicine label...

a great way to use up those grunge scraps...

I like the combo of art parts & grunge...

here's the other style button...

my next plan is to buy a cardigan with generic buttons...

chop them off & replace them with these beauties...

the photo doesn't do it justice...

I think these guys would be fun to add to jewelry too...

I used the largest art parts residence & several scroll/leaf pieces...

I adore that mini art parts truck...

I *think* you'll be seeing more art parts with coordinating stamps in the future...

tim's new distress stains are WONDERFUL on art parts...

it's couldn't be easier or quicker...

use them for the base coat of color, then add distressing with the blending tool & distress pads...

I used wild honey, peeled paint, fired brick, faded jeans & walnut on this...

or get them all...

and speaking of ALL...

all 36 who took my Ranger class last weekend AGREED!

WE NEED THE OTHER distress COLORS in the stains...

hello??? Ranger???

and the gold paint dabber...

a tiny detail, that I think adds lots to the finished piece...

I use it on most projects...

here's the base...

I wanted to keep it pretty simple,

since there is so much going on @ the top...

so I layered all 3 sizes of the spool bases &

edged them with the gold dabber...

then added my mini butterfly over the pointing finger...

the butterfly is stamped on clearly for art BLACKOUT...

and the mini art parts hand is stamped

with a portion of this stamp...

here's the whole piece again...

yikes...

ignore the background...

the laundry room was the only place I could get a semi decent photo...

now about those lucky winners...

but first...

I promised an update on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert...

we were both totally blown away...

it was spectacular...

it was probably better than that,

but I can't think of a better word...

we will go again next year for sure...

I had several questions about which of tim's new Adirondack color washes to start with...

for a basics set...

OK...this is just my opinion...

they are ALL AWESOME...

I would say a blue...either denim or sailboat blue...I love both...

a green...either meadow or lettuce...

so you can make leaves for flowers...imagine that!

red pepper is awesome & I LOVE butterscotch...

and stream is cool too...

and for sure espresso...it's wonderful when combined with the Perfect Pearls mists...

I used them today on this little box...

let's get going...

time to make art!

grab a generic gift box...

this is approximately 3 3/4 inches square...

and we'll change it into this...

ink the lid top & sides & also the bottom sides with vintage photo distress ink...

use coffee archival to stamp the script over the lid...

a tip...

set the inked stamp rubber side up on your worktable & lay the lid on the stamp...

that way you have a more solid stamping surface...

I just press from the inside...

to transfer the image...

or...

lay a wood stamp or acrylic block under the box lid for a better stamping surface...

use the gold paint dabber to lightly edge the lid...

the lid looks better already!

using jet black archival, stamp the lid edges with the index stamp...

again, lay the inked stamp on your table & if you set the lid on it with the opening toward you, you can easily press the lid onto the stamp with your finger...

use jet black archival & the polka dot to stamp the sides of the box bottom...

don't worry...

I covered up the oops with a piece of patterned paper...

the box will look like this from the side...

stamp the poinsettia once on grungeboard & 2 times on grungepaper...

I like to use both for layering...

cut out the full grungeboard image...

that will be the bottom GREEN layer of the flower...

cut off few petals from the second image...

as shown below & cut out just the poinsettia center from the 3rd image...

using jet black archival...

stamp the grungeboard flower & the little center with the Christmas background...

stamp the other flower with polka dots using jet black...

mist the grungeboard flower with meadow color wash on the front & back & dry with the heat it tool...

mist the other 2 flowers, front & back with red pepper color wash & dry...

poke 3 holes in the flower center & add 3 long fasteners...

form & shape the flower petals, then assemble the flower with grungeboard scraps between the layer to create dimension...

stamp the tree on grungeboard with jet black archival...

cut out & mist with meadow color wash on both sides...

ink the tree trunk with black soot...

emboss the tree with tim's dot matrix texture fade...

sand the raised dots with the sanding grip & add peeled paint over the sanded areas with the blending tool...

add some rock candy distress stickles to the tree...

set aside to dry...

did you know?

that distress stickles can be heat set?

Yes..they can!

now to create some idea-ology fragment ornaments...

these are simple & FUN!

choose 2 fragment charms that fit over your

chosen images..

these are from tim's new salvage stickers...

the seasonal ones...

apply Glossy Accents to the fragment & place over the image & press in place...

allow a few seconds to dry...

trim off the excess paper & sand edges with the sanding grip...

now this is cool...

use a piece of Ranger's Inkssentials Memory Tape to cover the top of the fragment charm...

poke a hole & add a string to hang...

and a fancy photo...

cut the fence from grungeboard...

& trim to fit the box...

tap the snow cap white pigment pad over the fence to cover it...

dry, then ink with vintage photo, walnut & black soot...

use coffee archival to stamp the spatter stamp over the fence...

HAHA...IF YOU'VE TAKEN A CLASS FROM ME...

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT STAMP!!!

I hear you laughing...

bend a few pickets to create dimension...

use walnut distress ink to stamp tim's mini snowflakes around the top of the lid...

take a look...that mini set is on SALE!

apply rock candy distress stickles to the top of the lid, in random areas...

to assemble...

add a grungeboard scrap under the fence before gluing to the lid...

die cut a portion of tim's alterations flourish from grungeboard & ink with vintage photo...

add the poinsettia on the left...

with the flourish partially under it...

add the tree on the right & hang the fragment ornaments...

add a Maya Road trinket star pin under the poinsettia...

cut off the pin from the Maya Road mini heart pin & glue just the heart to the tree trunk...

and the result...

TADA!!!

it doesn't even look like the same generic box we started with does it?

this will be perfect for a gift card...

or a piece of jewelry...

or some folded up $$$...

if you don't need a gift box...

PLAN B would be to glue the box shut & use it for an ornament for the tree!

NOW...

I have some AWESOME GOODIES to give away...
