the celebration...day 2

Thanks for all of yesterday's comments & emails!
Like I said yesterday...
blog friends are THE BEST!

There were a few comments & (I got several emails) asking about Claudine's multi medium...

Here's the scoop...
it does clean up with water...WHEN it's WET...
but once it's dry, it IS waterproof.

This makes it VERY useful for LOTS of things...

It's kind of hard to understand the odd properties...
but it's TRUE.
This is another...trust me!

Several people were concerned that heat from the mug would "melt" the multi medium...

NOT SO...

I've been using this tile for a few weeks.
I boil water in the mug for my tea...
believe me the bottom of the mug is plenty hot...
another...trust me...don't touch it!

The multi medium is still PERFECT!

That's my story & I'm stickin' to it!

NEXT...
Here's the link to a NEW RANGER video...

This one shows Jackie (from Ranger) using Stickles to make a card, with a cool stained glass effect.

It's obvious she works with SUZE...
and the BLING effect has certainly rubbed off on her...
(tierra & ALL!)

OH...and this is exciting...
Jackie used my poinsettia & make it merry stamps for the video!!
YIPPEE!!

I use the stamps with grungepaper, but Jackie used them on a transparency, for a totally different look.

That's why I LOVEEEEEEE rubber stamps...

the same stamp can be used with many different techniques...they're so versatile!

THANKS Jackie! It's a GREAT...funny video.

Take a few minutes...check it out...

So...you liked the quickie gift tile project...GREAT!!!

Here's today's simple gift idea...

This idea came about because I HATE wire hangers...

HATE them...REALLY HATE THEM!

The minute I walk in the door with something from the cleaners, I toss the wire hanger before I even take my coat off...sad, but true...

I'm not sure why I thought you needed to know that...but anyway...now you do!

I picked up a package of 2 plain wood hangers @ JoAnn's for $2.50...

just last week...

They are very sturdy and generic looking...

but they have LOTS of gift potential!

Here's exhibit A....
a collage of my stamps, stamped using jet black archival ink.

Just stamp & heat set...

add a Maya Road gingham ribbon...
DONE...

5 minutes for this...or less...

Exhibit B...
if you're a blog reader, then you know I HATE to waste stuff...

So those paper scraps can be used for another version of the hanger...

Start in the center of the hanger...
make sure the first scrap is straight...
then add scraps working out toward the sides...
just like wallpapering...

Use a craft knife to cut off the excess...
use tim's sanding grip to distress the edges...

Add a Maya Road gingham ribbon bow...

I present...exhibit B!

So those left overs from a project...
are already coordinated...
use them up & make art!
*
Another thought...
you could stitch the scraps together first...if you're INTO sewing.
*
And it's fun to coordinate the colors with the decor of your recipient...
*
Oh...and back to the sanding grip...now the perfect size refill sand paper is available...yippee!
Little things make me so happy!
*
On to Exhibit C...
no photo for this one...it's still in my head...
but here's my plan...
*
I'll make the same hangers with the mini jenni bowlin papers, since they coordinate with our bedroom.
I have been searching for the perfect vintage baby dress...to hang on this hanger.
It has to be the PERFECT one...
I'll know it when I see it...
*
I think it will look cool hanging on the wall...
now...
to find it...
****************************
OK...DRUMROLL.........
our first winner is...
Here's the associated comment...
I bought your book from Eclectic Paperie and received it earlier in the week and I LOVE it. I need some Ranger supplies now to make some of your wonderful projects. Thanks for such a wonderful book. I cannot wait to make everything in it.
*
So...Southern Cricut has until 7am tomorrow to reply with the shipping info...to win the prize...
*
If that doesn't happen...
2 prizes will be given tomorrow.
*
And what are you commenting on today...hoping to win?
How about some of Claudine's multi medium & some NEW distress stickles...
the NEW colors...
and...???
make art!

Another cute gift idea - I have some thinner wooden hangers - will have to try it. Thanks for the information on the medium.

Love the hangers!!! I think I may make some and since they are masculine looking with the background stamps, give them to my sons! Maybe, maybe, maybe, they will be influenced enough to use them to HANG UP their clothes!! I am definately making one with the country kitchen Jenni Bowlin papers (the flour sack ones) for my SIL, she will love it!!! You know if you got a pants on with clippy thingys you could use it to hang in the kitchen to hang hand towels on, or do a bathroom theme and put decorative towels on them in the bathroom, oohhhhhh, the possibilities are endless!!!

Vicki Holdwick said...

The hangers are a wonderful idea. Love them both, but really like the look of the stamped one - could work as a gift to either gender.

Thanks for sharing,

xoxo

You definitely see things differently than I do. I need a set of your eyes. I hope that doesn't sound too gruesome. I didn't mean it that way, I just love your point of view. Love the hanger project. I'm going to have to look through my house to see the potential of decorating plain surfaces. Thanks, Wendy, for the ideas.

Sharon said...

Thanks for addressing the "heat" issue. And instead of "sewing" the papers...you could just use some seam binding(you know, the ric-rac stuff)...and this would have the added benefit of keeping slinky things from slipping off of the hangers. Just a thought. Or old ribbons...or metal foil tape(if you really wanted to splurge...fancy Xmas papers and metal tape trim...maybe drill some holes along the bottom of the hanger and thread heavy string through to the top or glue in... and then clip...using Tim's clips, of course,....Xmas cards to it). I need to get some of that multi medium. Winning some would be nice. And Maya road. (I already have most of Tim's stuff...not all of his stamps...not all of your yet...working on it). But then can one really have too many distress stickles? I don't think so.

Sherry Cheever said...

I've been using Claudine's matte medium for a number of things and I LOVE it. Great idea for the coasters. I've been meaning to try some of those and just never have . . . you might have pushed me along. Now for the coat hangers . . . I LOVE them and its a fabulous idea for a quick and easy gift. I now see them as being the focal point of another wall hanging . . . keep adding more is more!

OK...I am so on board with this blog candy. I have tons of distress and other stickles, but I don't have Claudine's multi medium, and would love to play with that stuff!!! I have to go back and look at her acrylic paint transfer techie...I am in the mood to play with that today (after the 12 tags for the day is done, of course). Crossing my fingers here, Rockin Robin C (stampinsavage at yahoo dot com)

What a fantastic idea! I especially love the idea of hanging an antique baby dress on one covered with vintage paper. I would LOVE to win some of Claudine's Multi-Medium, I have not been able to find any at our LLS, and have been dying to try it. Crossing my fingers!

The Rambling Papercrafter said...

Any time I see a wire hanger I think of Mommy Dearest. That movie scarred me plus the fact the wire hangers would leave rust on my clothes when I was a kid because of the humidity. The wooden one it great and I can see lots of ways it could be used. I may have to pick a couple up to hang some art quilts with.

Trish said...

Oh, I love the wooden hanger idea. I also hate wire hangers, but tend to replace them with plastic as wooden ones are normally rather expensive (here in the UK), but I will keep hunting for cheaper ones to alter.

Wendy -

I love your idea for the hangers. I think they would make great gifts. I also love Jenni Bowlin paper so, I think they would look really cute with that paper. I am in love with Graphic 45 papers, in particular the Renaissance line, these would look great on the hangers. I think your idea of stamping the hangers is really cool. I think I would use a variety of your stamps, and then color the images with prismacolor pencils, a little gold leafing, some stickles and then spray the whole thing with a fixative to seal everything. Oh, I think I have to go and get some hangers now.

Keep the gift ideas coming - I love them.

Thanks

I think the hanger idea is great! Oh, and I'd never even heard of the multi medium until the cruise, and now I'm using it for all kinds of things.
Did you know that if you coat an inkjet image with it (very light coat, dries almost immediately), you can color the image and the printer ink won't smear or run? I was going to buy a laser printer, and I just saved myself some $. Pretty cool, huh?

Did you sand them before stamping? They have a shiny surface....

I assume heat seating is fine since it is a permanent ink - correct??
